In a disaster, what would Ohlone do?

Ohlone College is a large campus. So, if for instance a natural disaster occurred at Ohlone, what would happen? Floods are not a major concern for the Fremont campus as it is not in the flood plain zone and is elevated to some extent. In the event of an earthquake, the intensity of the earthquake would be the determining factor. If buildings and structures are damaged and/or destroyed, campus police, facilities personnel, and college
staff and faculty would assist in providing first aid and rescue of persons, if possible. First aid kits and an emergency operations center would be established with an organized command staff and action plan. “Any disaster would be one that involved the entire community or the entire Bay Area. An earthquake that would cause severe damage to the college would also have the same devastating effect on the surrounding communities,” said Steve Osawa, Chief of Campus Police Services / Safety and Security (CPS). There are some supplies available on campus, such as emergency blankets, water, first aid supplies, various tools and flashlights. Since the Ohlone Community College District has no student housing, most students would have to leave the campus and go to their homes. Injured students, staff, and faculty would receive immediate first aid and then be transported to a medical facility for treatment. An assessment would be made as to the structural integrity of each building and structure by professional engineers and a determination made as to the college district’s ability to resume its educational function.
