The swine flu H1N1 vaccine has arrived at Ohlone. On the evening of December 8th, 160 doses of the H1N1 vaccine arrived at the health center The students with first priority to the vaccine are the health science students and also the staff as they are in contact with the infected patients. Those students must reserve the vaccine by December 10th by six pm. The extra vaccines will proceed to the next priority group on December 12. This group includes students and staff with chronic illness and are at high risk of complications from the H1N1 such as asthma. For students, the shot will cost $10, for staff it will cost $20, and they will be available by appointment only in the health center in Building 7. All 160 doses must be administered before the break beginning on December 18th. “I think it’s great, I feel very fortunate that we were able to get some doses of the vaccine”, said Sally Bratton, director of the Ohlone student health center. Bratton is hopeful that Ohlone receives enough doses for everyone. It has been asked that nobody call, email, or drop in to request an exception as the rules were made by the CDC and the health office will be busy attempting to coordinate the distribution of the doses. The health office will not answer any questions or answer questions about the status of the distribution.
